President announces Listening Tour

President Michael Shannon has initiated a 45-day Listening Tour to learn more about Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ and the university's priorities and opportunities.

University of North Georgia (Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ) President Michael Shannon has initiated a 45-day Listening Tour to learn more about Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ and the university's priorities and opportunities. The Listening Tour includes a wide variety of campus meetings and community events as Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ prepares for the beginning of the 2023-24 academic year, as well as the following one-hour meetings scheduled for August. 

The focused sessions for students, faculty and staff are open to Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ community members and no registration is required. Alumni and community members will be invited to additional sessions scheduled for those stakeholder groups. 

  • Aug. 1, 10:30-11:30 a.m.: Dahlonega Campus, Library Technology Center, Room 382 (Archives & Special Collections), Staff.
  • Aug. 1, 4-5 p.m.: Dahlonega Campus, Library Technology Center, Room 382 (Archives & Special Collections), Faculty. 
  • Aug. 2, 3:30-4:30 p.m.: Gainesville Campus, Martha T. Nesbitt Building, Room 3110-A, Staff.

Shannon, a retired U.S. Army officer, became president of Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ on July 1, after serving as interim executive vice president for administration and finance and interim chief business officer at Georgia Tech. Prior to his interim role, Shannon served as Georgia Tech's vice president and deputy chief business officer. 

A native of New Jersey, Shannon is a first-generation college graduate and was commissioned through Army ROTC. He holds a bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering and a master's degree in aeronautical science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida. He also holds a master's degree in health physics and a Ph.D. in nuclear and radiological engineering from Georgia Tech.
