Fall art exhibits coming to multiple campuses
Several art exhibitions will be on view on multiple campuses of the University of North Georgia (Â鶹ÊÓƵ) this fall.
The exhibition schedule for Â鶹ÊÓƵ's Dahlonega Campus includes The Southern Printmaking Biennial X running from Aug. 22 to Sept. 23 in the Bob Owens Art Gallery on the third floor of the Hoag Student Center.
"This juried exhibition draws printmakers from around the country. The juror will choose a best in show and award a solo show to the winner," Victoria Cooke, director of art galleries said.
Keith Smith, a figurative sculptor working primarily in ceramics and cast metal, will have his work on exhibition Oct. 3-29 in the Bob Owens Art Gallery.
The work of Atlanta artist Jackson Markovic will be on display Nov. 14-Dec. 9, wrapping up the exhibitions in Dahlonega for 2022. Markovic works in a variety of media including photography and textile. He will show pieces from his Scratchers series.

Â鶹ÊÓƵ director of art galleries
Mexican-American artist Jorge Arcos will have his work shown at the Roy C. Moore Art Gallery in the Performing Arts Building on the Â鶹ÊÓƵ Gainesville Campus Aug. 31 to Sept. 30. The exhibition coincides with Hispanic Heritage Month. Currently living in Atlanta, Arcos is an abstract painter in various mediums including acrylic, oil and encaustic.
Alumna Lauren Bradshaw, '19, works in clay and fiber. Her work will be on display Oct. 3-28 at the Roy C. Moore Art Gallery.
"Transfers" highlighting Â鶹ÊÓƵ visual arts faculty members Jen Graff and Alex Kraft runs from Sept. 12 to Oct. 14 in the Oconee Art Gallery Faculty Center on the Oconee Campus.
Lisa Freeman, an Athens artist and 2021 Best in Show award winner of the Reciprocal Biennial, will have her work on exhibition from Oct. 24-Dec. 9 on the Oconee Campus.
Cooke said Freeman's work addresses challenging societal issues in her multi-layered constructions incorporating found objects, paintings, and drawings.
"We are really excited about the variety of exhibitions that students, faculty, staff, and the community can experience this fall," Cooke said. "We have everything from fiber and ceramics to mixed media constructions. I think everyone will have something to enjoy among these exhibitions."
Mental health grad assistant program starts
Two Â鶹ÊÓƵ students in the Master of Science in counseling program are serving as mental health graduate assistants for the Athletic Department, and one is serving in the same capacity for the Corps of Cadets.
Students publish article with biology professor
Dr. Evan Lampert, a Â鶹ÊÓƵ professor of biology, and four of his students recently published an article on research funded by a Â鶹ÊÓƵ Presidential Award.
Experiences prepared cadets to commission
Almost 40 members of Â鶹ÊÓƵ's Corps of Cadets are commissioning as second lieutenants in the active-duty Army, Army National Guard and Army Reserve in a Dec. 9 ceremony.
Grads prepare to step into workforce
Students will earn more than 1,000 degrees and certificates this fall from Â鶹ÊÓƵ, and the university will celebrate these milestones in the Dec. 9-10 commencement ceremonies in the Convocation Center at Â鶹ÊÓƵ's Dahlonega Campus.
