Two named to USG leadership institute
Dr. Keith Antonia and Dr. Wendy Walker have served the University of North Georgia (Â鶹ÊÓƵ) with their time and talents for a combined 30 years. The (USG) took notice this fall.
In November, USG named the pair to the 2021-22 class of its (ELI). The multi-faceted program is designed to enhance the leadership competencies of senior leaders within the USG.
Antonia and Walker were honored by the recognition.
"I feel fortunate to have been selected for this program," Walker, associate dean for faculty and graduate programs in the Mike Cottrell College of Business and professor of management, said. "I learn from my Â鶹ÊÓƵ colleagues every day, so I know we have many stellar faculty and staff. I appreciate USG and the university’s investment in our professional development and leadership."
For more than a decade, USG has sponsored ELI for faculty and staff who are ready for a cabinet-level position in the near future. Presidents nominate one academic and one staff leader to apply.
"This honor is only one of the countless contributions that our faculty, staff and students have made throughout the many years to establish and enhance Â鶹ÊÓƵ's reputation," Antonia said.
The associate vice president for military programs plans to take advantage of this opportunity.
"I think every leader, no matter how senior, should take the time to reflect on their leadership skills and abilities, seek to improve areas that have atrophied, learn new theories and practices, and create a positive culture in the organizations they head, and the people they lead," Antonia said.

He, Walker and 32 other faculty and staff members from 25 USG institutions and the university system's office will study leadership development curriculum focused on personal growth, job shadowing and cross-mentoring. The institute also will feature interactive face-to-face sessions focusing on essential leadership competencies as well as networking opportunities with other USG institution presidents, executive leaders and alumni.
"USG strongly supports investing in the development and retention of our future USG leaders, and these class members represent the best of faculty and staff across the state who will lead us into the future,” Vice Chancellor for Leadership and Institutional Development Stuart Rayfield said. “We congratulate them for this honor, and look forward to working with them as they continue to evolve and grow in their leadership development."
Students offer free tax preparation
Students pursuing bachelor's and master's accounting degrees at Â鶹ÊÓƵ are providing free tax preparation through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program sponsored by the IRS.
Sales student places in top 20 of event
Â鶹ÊÓƵ student Billy Brown placed in the top 20 out of 360 competitors in the Speed Selling Finals at the Northeast Intercollegiate Sales Competition held Nov. 14-15 at Bryant University.
Course offers hands-on marketing experience
Students in a digital marketing class in the fall at Â鶹ÊÓƵ created social media plans for a small business and a nonprofit organization.

Supported by Intel AI Digital Readiness Programs, Â鶹ÊÓƵ is launching 'AI for Georgia Professionals,' a certificate that includes self-paced online learning and a synchronous online or in-person format.
