Business Management - America’s Homeplace
I heard about my internship with America’s Homeplace from one of my close friends who participated in the internship the summer before. I was informed how beneficial the internship was and so I immediately did whatever I could to intern there. I received an email that the company would be attending Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s career fair and I didn’t hesitate to be the first person in attendance and introduce myself. Soon, I received an email about the internship’s onboarding and interviewing process.
What has been the most valuable (or favorite) part of the experience?
The most valuable part of this internship was learning the value of communication. Whether it's to your customers, coworkers or independent trade contractors, communicating allows you to progress further in your work. I was able to shadow multiple project managers and ran multiple projects while others were on vacation.
My biggest takeaway that I wanted from this internship was jobsite knowledge. I had some experience in the industry, but I was seeking more, and America’s Homeplace taught me more than I would’ve ever thought. The company preaches about teaching people, and it showed by the required training and learning sessions I had throughout the internship. My internship was made very easy with the culture of this company. America’s Homeplace was built on standards that make everyone a family. Not one day went by that didn’t look forward to showing up to work.
This internship will help me work alongside others and effectively communicate tasks that will help in my career. This job made me enthusiastic about our customers and going above and beyond to build their dream home! I would completely recommend this internship, and I will be doing so as much as I can!
Most importantly, this internship confirmed my interest in the residential construction industry and gave me the confidence to pursue a career in project management. I am grateful for everything I learned at America's Homeplace and would highly recommend this internship to other students seeking meaningful, hands-on experience in the construction industry.
